Expertise

I advise UK and international businesses on all areas of commercial employment law as well as advising senior individuals regarding their own positions.  I advise clients on non-contentious matters and through litigation, ranging from the Employment Tribunal through to the High Court and above.  I have particular experience in the area of team moves acting for employers or groups of employees.  I am one of a limited number of solicitors with extensive experience of supervising search injunctions.

Profile

After reading Law at London University, I trained and qualified in one City firm in 1990, becoming a partner there in 1996 before moving to another leading City firm with international offices in 2000.  I was Head of Employment at my last firm from 2009 before joining Rawlison Butler in 2011.

Memberships

I am a member of the Employment Lawyers Association, the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development and the City Law Club.

Public profile

I regularly present lectures and seminars and have spoken at international conferences in the USA, France, Belgium & Norway.  I comment in the national media on employment issues.

What others say about me

I am recognised in the independent legal directories as a leader in the employment field and as having built a reputation for “delivering practical & commercial advice”.

In my spare time …

I enjoy time with my family and am a keen squash and tennis player as well as an avid rugby fan, being a Munster Rugby season ticket holder.

What I said when I was asked …

How do you contribute to our Corporate Social Responsibility?

Following a visit to India, I helped to establish an educational charity which over the years has assisted very many students who have since qualified as doctors, nurses, engineers etc and contributed to the betterment of their own society.  I have been a school governor for over 20 years and am seeking to co-ordinate charitable efforts for my Church.

What has been the most memorable or challenging deal/case for you?

I represented a team of insurance brokers faced (on New Year’s Eve) with a High Court injunction, which was swiftly and successfully defended, allowing them to continue a prosperous business unhindered by their previous employer.

What I do to get myself thinking creatively?

Often taking some brief time to stand back and reflect on matters, particularly the most pressurised, pays dividends in terms of creative thinking.  The benefit of having such a good team as at Rawlison Butler also means that bouncing ideas off each other can accelerate creative thinking.
