Expertise

I have expertise in all areas of employment law.  In addition to advising corporate clients on avoiding and resolving complex legal issues, company restructures and international issues, I have particular experience dealing with the termination of senior executives.

Profile

I studied Law at Exeter University, before completing the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law, London.  Following my qualification as a solicitor in 2001, I worked in the Employment Department of a leading international Law Firm, before joining Rawlison Butler in March 2009.

Memberships

I am a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.

Public profile

I contribute articles to both legal and sector specific publications.  In addition to conducting in-house client training sessions, I am a regular speaker at the Employment Group’s seminars and workshops.

In my spare time …

I can normally be found enjoying the outdoors. After many years of playing and coaching cricket, I am now discovering the world of endurance events including marathons and, more recently, triathlon.

What I said when I was asked …

How do you contribute to our Corporate Social Responsibility?

I am using my next triathlon as an opportunity to raise funds for charity. The training also means that I will often spend the 25 miles travelling to work on my bike instead of in my car.

What do you expect to be the most significant market trend in your area for the next 12 months?

Many employers have had to endure spending cuts and redundancies in recent times. While we all hope that the worst of that is now over, I expect there to be a period of consolidation for employers. With many caught unawares by the economic downturn, employers will want to explore how they can protect themselves for the future, but at the same time ensuring that they are able to retain their key staff.

What has been the most memorable or challenging deal/case for you?

Representing a senior employee suffering from inoperable cancer. It was a particularly emotional case, with the individual desperate to ensure that his family would be looked after. I secured a multi million pound tax free settlement for him a week before he passed away.
