Expertise
My practice is in the area of Family Litigation, advising parties on divorce, relationship breakdown and financial claims arising upon death. I am a trained Family Mediator and known for my expertise in negotiating financial settlement packages following divorce.
Profile
After training in London, I joined Rawlison Butler LLP in 1991 and was made a Partner in 2000. I have specialised in family law throughout this time, although I have retained a small personal injury practice.
Memberships
I am a member of Resolution, the organisation representing Solicitors who specialise in family law and APIL, the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.
Public profile
I speak regularly about issues related to Family Law and provide seminars to professionals and employees of local companies.
What others say about me
“Robert is a market leader in the field of matrimonial finance. He regularly, and successfully, undertakes complex and high value cases. Robert is very highly regarded by lay clients, colleagues and by the Counsel he instructs, leading and junior.”

In my spare time …
Whenever possible, my spare time is spent honing my skiing skills on the slopes and my walking skills on the flat!
What I said when I was asked …
How do you contribute to our Corporate Social Responsibility?
I maintain close links with the pro bono advice sector, locally through the CAB for whom we provide regular family law clinics. Further afield, I am involved in a legal advice charity in Brighton and Hove that was set up by my wife.
What changes to do you expect in the next 12 months?
The imminent access of supermarkets and other service providers to the legal market is certainly the main issue concerning the profession at present.
What do you do to get yourself thinking creatively?
I find that a strong cup of coffee generally gets my creative juices flowing. For difficult problems a walk with the dog in the countryside is sometimes required!
