Expertise

My work has five main areas of focus: Contentious Trusts & Probate where I advise on will disputes and claims against an estate following death. Contentious Court of Protection which involves defending or making applications to the Court of Protection where there is a vulnerable adult involved, eg objecting to the registration of a Power of Attorney.   In Family law, my focus is predominantly on the financial consequences of relationships breaking down.  I advise on professional negligence actions that relate to will disputes and the elderly.  I also act on fatal accident claims advising on the merits of a claim, helping the widow or widower through the difficult process and bringing an action on their behalf where necessary.

Profile

I recently completed a Diploma in Contentious Trusts & Probate with the Association of Contentious Trusts & Probate Solicitors.

I also have a degree in Corporate Law and a post-graduate LLB from the National University of Ireland, Galway.  I spent a year on Erasmus in France and interned with the Family Law and Domestic Violence units of the Legal Aid Society in Brooklyn, New York.  My experience in Brooklyn influenced me to make the transition from corporate law into the private client domain.  I became a trainee with Rawlison Butler LLP in 2007 and qualified into the Private Client Litigation Team in September 2009.

What others say about me

I am a member of a team that was recommended in the Legal 500 previously.

In my spare time

I like to relax in the garden, travel to Ireland to visit my family or go on holidays somewhere warm.

What I said when I was asked …

How do you contribute to our Corporate Social Responsibility?

I give free training seminars at local doctor surgeries and the CAB on mental capacity, powers of attorney and deputyships.

What has been the most memorable or challenging case for you?

A case which will stay with me for a long time is one which I am currently working on concerning a Fatality Act Claim where a husband and father was tragically killed at work.

What I do to get myself thinking creatively?

I fetch a cup of tea and then try to look at the matter with fresh eyes.  I then bounce my ideas off colleagues which is incredibly helpful as there is a wealth of varied experience to tap into.
