Expertise
I deal with Tax and Estate planning and Trust law. My experience includes an emphasis on property and in particular family owned property (commercial agricultural and residential) and the importance of preserving this for future generations.
Profile
I completed my training at Rawlison Butler and became a partner in 1978. I am the Head of the Private Client department and also the firm’s Senior Partner. I have never felt any inclination to move to another firm of solicitors – we have a fantastic body of staff and colleagues and why would anyone want to leave such a great firm?
Public profile
As well as speaking at firm seminars and contributing to articles I frequently represent the firm as Senior Partner and am actively involved in the business community.
In my spare time …
I like to stay busy and have always enjoyed getting involved in my local community. I am an active trustee of two charities and a past school governor and chairman of the local Chamber of Commerce. My club membership includes the MCC, Sussex Cricket Club and Chichester Yacht Club. I enjoy sport, particularly water sports and regularly play tennis, ski, sail and kayak.
What I said when asked…
How do you contribute to the firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility Policy?
I chair the firm’s CSR committee and one of the things that I am most proud of is that the committee has recently formed the Rawlison Butler Charitable Foundation. This gives focus to the firm’s charitable activities and enables all of our staff to get involved. We have pledged £30,000 to St Catherine’s Hospice over a period of three years and are well on the way to meeting our first year’s target. In July 2011, I kayaked 60 miles around the Isle of Wight for charity.
How do your colleagues describe you?
(I hope) one who is totally committed to the firm with a reputation for always putting the needs and requirements of its clients first. One who is fair and open and one who understands and promotes in house development and career progression of the firm’s younger members.
