Project Managing Large Disputes

Clive Lee
  Clive Lee

Head of the firm's Commercial Disputes Department, Clive's profile includes advising clients on a wide range of commercial matters. He acts not only for UK companies but also for UK subsidiaries of multi-national corporations on international trade disputes and for foreign companies with interests in the EU. Clive is ranked as a leading individual in the South East region of Chambers UK.

Recent work has included advising on: a business critical shareholders dispute; a dispute relating to sponsorship of a high profile international works racing team, and a foreign based multi-national corporation in respect of multi-jurisdictional product liability issues and an off shore construction dispute involving contractual and site engineering issues. Also representing; a leading US based automotive parts manufacturer in the successful appeal of an adverse import duty review by HM Revenue and Customs; a US based manufacturer in the contested administration of a UK based customer and a South American premier football club in a dispute relating to the transfer of a leading international.

After spending the early part of his career with leading City firm Barlow Lyde & Gilbert, specialising in professional indemnity and insurance related litigation, Clive became an in-house legal adviser for the Alliance and Leicester Building Society in respect of contentious matters. This experience has equipped him with the ability to view complex commercial disputes from a variety of perspectives.

Clive has a keen interest in motor-sport, being a full RAC member and rarely missing Le Mans or the Goodwood Revival racing meeting. Clive is modest about his handicap on the golf course ("You'd better make out I'm ok - I will be when I get my new clubs"). Clive also indulges in occasional bouts of horseriding as an antidote to his desire for speed behind the wheel. Clive's enthusiasm for his work centres on getting to know the client and the client's business in proper depth.

Stuart Evans
  Stuart Evans

Stuart trained at City firm Lovells, where he worked in the international fraud and asset tracing department. He joined Rawlison Butler in 2000 as a partner in the Commercial Dispute Resolution team. Stuart has earned particular client commendations for his work on disputes with an international flavour, including insolvency, commercial/employee fraud and asset tracing, together with transactional disputes, regulatory and boardroom matters. Project managing large commercial disputes is one of Stuart's key skills. Consistently recognised in the leading legal directories, Stuart is described as "commercial", "down to earth" and “a superb litigator.”

Stuart has also been instrumental in the firm's business development initiatives, having been Business Development Partner for many years. This year he became the Client Care and Compliance Partner at Rawlison Butler. He is a CEDR registered mediator, consultant editor for the marketing publication "Essential Law for Marketers" and is a member of Sweet & Maxwell's Civil Procedure Panel.

Away from work Stuart avoids daring ventures, preferring to channel time safely into hopefully improving his skills with his 7 iron, mountain bike or on the air guitar.
