Divorce and separation - frequently asked questions

Question

I am afraid that if I start divorce proceedings, I won’t get enough to live on.  Is this the case?

Answer

This is quite a common concern.  It is fear of the unknown.  Separating from a partner is a huge change both in terms of emotion and practicality.  The legal system ensures that both parties have a fair financial settlement and that both parties are housed and have enough to live on.  Financial provision will be made.
